New Horizons for Medical Museums and Collections

Collections of objects related to the history of medicine and health play an important role in teaching, research, and learning in general. In recent years, medical museums have shown their ability to benefit patient communities, health and well-being, and society. However, approaches to managing medical collections will continue to evolve as a result of the pressing issues and questions that lie ahead, from small-scale local collections to national medical heritage organizations. The conference's objective is to look into the function and importance of medical collections for societies in the past, now, and in the future. What possibilities do medical collections offer? In light of the present and upcoming challenges, how can medical museums be useful?

At the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden, from September 20–23, 2023, an international conference will be held to examine this subject. The conference will bring together curators, scholars, students, and medical professionals to discuss how to make and keep medical collections important.
