'Vocabularies of Tourism' focuses on the relationship between tourism and cultural diplomacy in Palestine by looking at tourist guides, language manuals, and photography. It analyses how Arabs 'produced' culture through these means and how this related to Western academic interest in the region.

This conference will be organised by Leiden University and the CrossRoads Project.
Leiden University is one of Europe's leading international research universities. Under its motto 'Bastion of Liberty', the university is committed to the development, dissemination and application of scientific knowledge.
The CrossRoads Project seeks to rediscover the relationship between the European cultural agenda and the social-, religious-, and identity transformation of Arab Christian communities in Palestine. It does this by organising events and inviting researchers to exchange knowledge.
