Scheltema is a former Leiden blanket factory, right next to Museum De Lakenhal. The factory was founded in 1817. After a period of great prosperity, the factory lost ground in the first half of the twentieth century due to rapid mechanization and modernization. After fifty years of partial vacancy, the beautiful building was restored in a very basic way, under the direction of the Leiden architect Reinier Verbeek. Many materials were reused, so that the building has retained its authentic character.

The Scheltema Leiden complex, where cultural events are organized, consists of four floors, with 6 special rooms that can be used for various meetings. Due to the many rooms, Scheltema is very suitable as a conference location for up to 350 people. The rooms are also ideal as a meeting or training location. Scheltema Leiden is also a special location for company parties from 20 to 660 people. A stage can be placed in the foyer or the theater for performances by a band or DJ. Rental in combination with catering arrangements is possible.

The robust and trendy Foyer is the entrance area of Scheltema, with space for 30-120 people. Wooden pillars and ceilings give the room a sturdy, authentic atmosphere. In the old Ketelhuis, where steam used to be produced, the industrial history is still tangible and visible. This space, with a glass roof, can accommodate 15-125 people. The adjacent Garden (10-150 persons) is walled and is an excellent addition to the Ketelhuis and the Foyer when the weather is nice.

The Theaterzaal, with a spacious balustrade all around, has space for 150-350 people. The room can be adapted for various meetings. The Theatercafé (15-70 people) has large windows overlooking the water of the Oude Singel and the Leidse Schouwburg. Room Expo 1 has a lot of daylight and is suitable for 20-100 people. The room can be completely darkened by means of blackout panels.

Scheltema is a 10-minute walk from Leiden Central Station. The Digros parking garage and from 2017 the Lammermarkt parking garage is a 5-minute walk away. Boats can moor in front of Scheltema.
