The Huis van de Passer is a building with a rich history that dates back to the 16th century. A paint company was established between 1590 and 1668. Then it becomes a brewery. In 1872, the masonic lodge La Vertu, founded in 1757, bought the two buildings at Steenschuur 4 and 6 and installed a new facade.

In 2019 the current owner, Stichting Leids Maçonniek Centrum, renovated the building and it is now used by three different lodges and external parties. On the ground floor is a large room with bar facilities, situated behind it a professional kitchen. The courtyard at the rear offers space to stay outside in the summer. On the first floor, next to a smaller conference room, is the Masonic Hall. This windowless room has a vaulted ceiling with a starry sky. The acoustics are special. It is also an official wedding location. The various rooms can be rented for you catering wishes; however, you need to select your own preferred catering company. The location is also accessible by boat. The new Garenmarkt parking garage was recently opened behind the Steenschuur.
