The Knowledge Orchard: day for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration - Leiden University

Friday, 28 November 2025, is designated as the day for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration. The aim of the day is to encourage both the scientific and social sectors to work together to find solutions to complex issues.

The meeting is organised to mark the 450th anniversary of Leiden University, at the PLNT location. The morning programme has been created for Leiden researchers, lecturers and students who focus on interdisciplinary research and education, and aims to optimise interdisciplinary work and create partnerships. In the morning, there will be various speakers giving workshops, and at the end of the morning, there will be an information market where you will have the opportunity to meet teams who can support you with their expertise from the university.

The afternoon programme has been created for Leiden University staff and representatives of social partners who want to enter into new collaborations or expand their existing ones. During the afternoon programme, three sessions will discuss the possibilities for collaboration on three different themes:

How is AI changing the role of (local, provincial and national) government in relation to citizens? What are the opportunities and risks? 
Health and physical environment – how can we design the physical environment to improve citizens' health? 
Resilient society – how can governments better) prepare for acute disasters (such as cyber attacks and environmental disasters)? 

The day is an excellent opportunity to increase your interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge, but also to expand your network.
