On 10 February 2026, the Science Café Leiden will host a lecture on the theme of “back from extinction”. Can extinct animals, such as the mammoth, really be brought back to life using modern biotechnology? And do we actually want that?

Bart Braun, who works in science communication at Naturalis Biodiversity Centre, will talk about these fascinating questions. After the break, there will be an opportunity to discuss these topics with him. The science evening will take place at Scheltema, and doors open at 7:40 p.m. The evening will open with music by Willemine & Marcel, featuring vocals and piano. Admission to the lecture is free. Please note: the lecture will be held in Dutch.
