What will the human body of the future look like? During this interactive evening, scientists, artists and ethicists will explore how stem cells and new biotechnologies could transform healthcare, and what questions this raises.
Body Futures: The Art and Science of Emerging Biotechnologies in Healthcare brings together science, art and ethics. Scientists, artists and ethicists explore how stem cell technology can contribute to tissue repair, the treatment of diseases and possibly even the regeneration of parts of the body. Bio-artist Sonja Bäumel will be presenting her new artwork on stem cell technology, on display at the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave.
Alongside the scientific possibilities is the social impact also a central focus. What applications are already possible, how might these technologies transform healthcare, and what ethical questions arise when science pushes the boundaries of the human body? With short talks, diverse perspectives and an open discussion with the audience, the evening invites us to reflect together on our biological future.
Attending the lecture is free with a museum ticket or if you have a student card / museumcard.
