3rd HAPS4ESA Workshop

The 3rd HAPS4ESA workshop will take place in Leiden from 12th to 14th February 2024.

High Altitude Pseudo Satellites (HAPS) are unmanned platforms positioned at an altitude of around 20 km in the stratosphere, significantly higher than commercial aircraft. With the ability to stay at specific locations for extended periods, HAPS provide persistent observations from near-space, bridging the gap between terrestrial and space systems. These platforms complement and extend satellite capabilities in Earth Observation, Telecommunication, and Navigation. By working in synergy with satellites, HAPS offer unique potential for developing applications and advancing scientific endeavors.

The workshop aims to achieve several objectives:

  1. Assessing the current state-of-the-art of High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellites (HAPS) and staying informed about recent developments.
  2. Identifying future perspectives for HAPS in Europe.
  3. Elaborating on synergies between HAPS and satellites in the fields of Earth Observation, Telecommunication, and Navigation.
  4. Learning about new and improved scientific insights, services, and applications enabled by the combined use of HAPS and Space Assets.…

  5. Collecting recommendations for future European Space Agency (ESA) programs and activities.

The European Space Agency (ESA) invites participation from various stakeholders, including industry (manufacturers, technology providers, operators, service providers), science, academia, regulatory bodies, policy makers, and data users. The workshop provides a platform for networking and interaction with experts from Europe and around the world. The organizers look forward to welcoming participants for discussions on recent developments and future perspectives.
