The 50th anniversary of our association offers an excellent opportunity to reflect on the intergenerational transmission of criminology. Which themes, methods and theories should remain for future generations of criminologists, and what should definitely not be passed on? What should the next fifty years of Dutch criminology look like in research and education?

Five decades of work require both a look back and a look ahead. During the conference we will reflect on the progress made in the field of criminology over the past fifty years and explore the challenges and innovations that lie ahead. The Dutch Association for Criminology was founded in 1973. Now, fifty years later, it has grown into a valuable platform for scientists, practitioners and policymakers to collaborate, share insights and shape the future of criminology in the Netherlands. With now 300 members, the NVC is a colorful group. The various universities and research institutes, such as the WODC and the NSCR, are essential for the intergenerational transfer of knowledge and progress on various topics within Dutch criminology. The variety of topics in Dutch criminology is also reflected in the twelve divisions of the NVC: Activism, extremism and terrorism; Biosocial criminology; Cultural criminology; Cybercrime; Detention; Green criminology; Life course criminology; Migration and crime; Corporate crime; Victimology; Women, girls and criminology; and Historical Criminology.

In the coming decades, urgent global and local social issues will have to be addressed. Dutch Criminology can make a meaningful contribution to this through fundamental scientific research into theory development and phenomenological research, but also empirically based policy development and innovative approaches to crime prevention and control. In order to move forward, it is at the same time important to sometimes take a moment to reflect on the development and legacy of criminological science and to reflect critically on this.

The NVC therefore cordially invites all scientists, researchers, practitioners and policymakers to contribute to the major anniversary conference of Dutch criminology through original research papers, case studies and theoretical explanations.
