Kasteel Oud-Poelgeest is located in Oegstgeest, 2.9 km from Leiden, with Schiphol, Keukenhof and the North Sea beach in the vicinity. From this estate, you can take boat rides over the nearby lakes. In addition to a hotel and a bistro, the castle also has 14 meeting rooms of various sizes for groups from 2 to 100 people. There is a wine-tasting hall and a castle bar with a sun-drenched patio adjacent to the big pond.

The castle was originally built as a fortified mansion shortly after 1300 in an area ‘bordered by swamps and ponds’. It is situated on an estate of over 10 hectares with deciduous woods, a pond and waterways and a 19th century coach house, a chapel, a forester’s house and a gatehouse. The current castle was built around 1640. One of its famous residents was the Leiden professor Herman Boerhaave (around 1725). He planted special trees and plants and planted an herb garden. The onion-shaped towers date from the 19th century.

Oud-Poelgeest is very suitable for conferences, meetings and festivities. The rooms are situated in the Castle, the Coach House and in the Oranjerie. There are 5 meeting rooms in the characteristic Coach House, including the Boerhaavezaal. This former hayloft provides space to 100 people. In addition to the Boerhaavezaal, there are four meeting rooms which are perfect as break-out meeting rooms or reception areas. In the castle are various period rooms. All the rooms, with names such as ‘de Oude Mangelkamer’ and ‘de Wapenzaal’, have natural daylight, vary from 25 to 120 m2 and have been equipped with all possible meeting facilities. There are several conference packages.

The romantic Drakenzaal is very suitable for performing wedding ceremonies. The coach house can be used for a reception, dinner, party or wedding. With good weather the patio at the water can be used. The 45 hotel rooms and the reception area are situated in the (modern) side building of the former coach house. The meetings contribute to the preservation of this cultural heritage. It enables restoration, maintenance and embellishments of the listed property at the Oud-Poelgeest estates. Over the past years, the arched bridge and the ceiling of the Drakenzaal have been restored.

Kasteel Oud Poelgeest is located just 5 minutes from the A4 motorway, between The Hague and Amsterdam, at 10 minutes (by bike) from Leiden Central Station and 20 minutes from Schiphol Airport. Parking is free of charge.
