Louise van den Berg has lived in Leiden since 1987 – initially as a student and later throughout her career. Since 2016, Louise has been working in the world of food through her company, Keukenatelier. It’s a varied role centred on culinary creativity: recipe development for major companies in the food industry, food photography, illustrations, styling and copywriting for websites and magazines. A knack for striking flavour combinations has earned her several prizes in various national cooking and baking competitions, including a trip to Japan!

Although Louise thoroughly enjoys developing dishes in her own kitchen, she also loves heading out to discover new places to eat! Preferably in the company of others, so she can share the experience. Her enthusiasm for culinary explorations has led her to organise food tours of Leiden. After all, Leiden has much more to offer than the well-known hutspot, herring and white bread.
This multicultural city is home to a wide variety of cuisines. You can sample them in restaurants, eateries and cafeterias, run by hospitable business owners. As you stroll through the heart of the city, past courtyards and canals, across bridges and along the waterways. The Waag, Burcht, Academy Building and Town Hall are just a few of the idyllic spots.
During the Leiden food tours, Louise and her team are delighted to take you on a journey! The most popular tour is the Italian one, but other themes can be arranged. A variety of hot and cold delicacies are sampled as you walk, at around six atmospheric locations. The snacks are tasted on the spot or packed to take to a picnic spot with seating.
