EuroHaptics 2020, Leiden’s first hybrid Conference
Leiden has showcased it’s very well capable of organizing hybrid conferences, combining on-site and live streaming, adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.
Eurohaptics is a major international conference on haptics and touch enabled computer applications, and the primary European meeting for researchers in this field. Eurohaptics 2020 conference, held in Leiden, September 6th – 9th, 2020, did provide researchers from academia and industry with an opportunity to present ideas and establish contacts with other haptics researchers from around the world. The conference was held at the City Concert Hall (Stadsgehoorzaal) in Leiden.
Jan van Erp, organizer of the Eurohaptics conference: “Early September, Leiden showed its sunny and innovative side to attendees of the city’s first hybrid conference: Eurohaptics 2020. The Stadsgehoorzaal welcomed over 70 delegates on-site and several hundred online participants together enjoying live streaming of presentations and lively discussions. The delegates who travelled to Leiden were excited to meet each other in real life and were impressed by the beautiful things Leiden has to offer while adhering to the Covid-19 regulations. This memorable gathering underlined the importance of life meetings to share ideas, discuss views, and make friends. Chapeau to Leiden and the teams of The Stadsgehoorzaal and the Leiden Convention Bureau for making Eurohaptics 2020 a big success.”
