Van der Valk Hotel Leiden

Haagse Schouwweg 14 2332 KG LEIDEN

Het Haagsche Schouw was established in the Middle Ages as a ferry house and became a tollgate later on. In the early 17th century, it was rebuilt into an inn with a stepped gable. Until 1902, travellers to The Hague were brought across the water here in a flat-bottomed skiff known as a schouw. After that a bridge was constructed, but the old inn, aptly named Het Haagsche Schouw, remained. In 2008 the building had a thorough restoration, ensuring its tremendous historical value remained intact.

The rooms are spacious, modern and stylish and most have a balcony with seats. These rooms have air conditioning, 26 inch flatscreen TV, jacuzzi and separate shower, free coffee and tea facilities and a minibar. The hotel has a lift. A modern, open kitchen is the heart of Het Haagsche Schouw Restaurant. When weather permits, service is provided on the patio. The renovated bar & brasserie, situated in the historical part, provides coffee, lunch or a glass of wine in a cheerful and informal atmosphere. The modern interior blends beautifully into the historical environment. There are plenty of snacks on the menu, as well as delicious typical brasserie dishes.

Van der Valk Hotel Leiden provides opportunities for business gatherings such as meetings, conferences, training courses or presentations up to 200 people. In the historical part of the hotel, there are 5 luxury and stylish boardrooms with daylight, comfortable leather armchairs, integrated equipment, a flip-chart and a Nespresso coffee maker. The meeting rooms, with comfortable armchairs, have natural daylight, sound equipment, video projector and screen and a view over the Oude Rijn. Fast internet enables options for video-conferencing.

The hotel provides a shuttle service to the Bio Science Park and Central Station, has a fitness room and rents bikes. From the patio, groups can embark on a canal tour through Leiden. There is ample free parking.

Van der Valk Hotel Leiden has a Golden Green Key certificate and focuses on sustainability and care for nature and the environment: from electric car charging stations and bikes to green power, organic and fair-trade products, and plants watered with water from the Rhine.
