AI improves wound care at LUMC
The LUMC is collaborating with KickstartAI to develop a new AI model that helps nurses create wound reports. The model can generate a wound report based on photographs of the wound. The AI wound report reduces the administrative workload for nurses, giving them more time to spend with patients.
Time-consuming
Currently, the process of compiling a wound report is time-consuming and cumbersome. After inspecting the wound, a photograph is taken and manually uploaded to the patient file. After the photograph, the wound care specialist compiles and assesses the wound report. Preparing the wound report takes time, and nurses often assess the wound in different ways, resulting in reports that are not always complete and comparable. The AI model optimises and accelerates this process by generating parts of the report and making the reports more consistent.
In process
The model is currently undergoing testing and will be operational at the LUMC within a year. If the test is successful, other hospitals, such as Erasmus MC, will apply the model in their wound reports.
