New factory brings new innovation and jobs to Leiden
Eli Lilly, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, is setting up a new factory in Katwijk, close to Leiden Bio Science Park. It is estimated that the factory will create 500 jobs in the region, including positions for scientists and laboratory technicians. In addition, the construction of the factory will create 1,500 temporary jobs in the construction sector.
Leiden Bio Science Park
In addition to creating new jobs, the new factory contributes to knowledge development and the economy of the Leiden region and the Leiden Bio Science Park ecosystem. Access to qualified talent from the Leiden Bio Science Park was one of the decisive reasons for Eli Lilly to establish itself in the region. Besides that, the Leiden Bio Science Park has good accessibility and proximity to the European Medicines Agency in Amsterdam.
Medicines
At the factory, Eli Lilly will develop and manufacture various medicines, including drugs for diabetes, obesity, brain disorders and cancer. Construction of the factory is expected to be completed in 2030.
