About the venue
The EPS-TIG event will take place in the Gorlaeus Building in Leiden, the Netherlands. This modern university building is part of Leiden University and is located in the Leiden Bio Science Park, one of the leading Life Science hubs in Europe. The Gorlaeus Building is a centre for education and research in chemistry and related sciences. It offers a contemporary academic setting that supports focused discussions, interactive sessions and knowledge exchange. The building combines functional design with up-to-date facilities, creating a professional and stimulating environment for an international scientific event.
Located just outside the historic city centre, the Gorlaeus Building is easily accessible by public transport, bicycle or walk from the hotel. Participants will experience the dynamic side of Leiden as a city of science, where cutting-edge research and academic collaboration are part of daily life.
About EPS-TIG
The EPS-TIG event is a multi-day, hands-on workshop in Leiden that brings together bachelor and master students in Physics and Astrophysics from across Europe. Over four days, particpants explore how cutting-edge measurement technologies are developed, how they enable science, and how innovations move between academia en industry.
This year's theme, "Frontiers of Measurement Techniques", highlights the measurement driven nature of modern physics: from quantum sensing and ultra-sensitive detection to high-performance instrumentation and novel experimental approaches. The central aim is to bridge the gap between industrial innovation and academic research, showing participants how real-world engineering constraints and scientific curiosity jointly shape the next generation of experiments.
More details on the final programme, speakers, company visits, participation/registration, and logistical information will be published on this page as they are confirmed.
If you would like to participate or collaborate, please reach out via the contact details listed on the website.

FAQ
The workshop takes place from 24-27 August at Gorlaeus Building, Leiden University, in Leiden, the Netherlands.
The event is intended for Bachelor and Master students in Physics, Astrophysics, or closely related fields from across Europe. Students with an interest in experimental physics, instrumentation, sensing, and measurement techniques are especially encouraged to apply.
The 2026 theme is "Frontiers of Measurement Techniques". The programme spans modern measurement topics, from quantum sensing to advanced instrumentation and high-perfomance readout methods.
The event will combines talks and lectures, hands-on sessions, and company visits focused on real-world measurement technologies and how they enable cutting-edge research.
We plan visits to:
- An astrophysics-focused company producing sensors for Earth observation
- A company developing multi-sensing probes for Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM)
- A company building micro-walker motors for cryogenic measurements
Yes. Participants will receive free accomodation in Leiden at Hilton Garden Inn (details will be shared with accepted participants).
Yes. After the event, participants will be able to reimburse a part of their travel costs. The reimbursement rules and procedure (eligible costs, required documents, limits) will be communicated to accepted participants
No. The workshop is designed to be accessible to students from different subfields. An interest in measurement, instrumentation, and experimental practice is the main requirement.
Accomodation is covered. Participants should expect to cover travel upfront, with the option to claim partial reimbursement after the event. Any additional personal expenses (e.g. meals outside the programme) are typically the participant's responsibility unless stated otherwise in the final information package.
Application instructions and deadlines will be published on this website. Typically, applicants will be asked for basic information such as study programme/level and a short motivation.
Selection is usually based on aligibility (BSc/MSc in a relevant field) and motivation, aiming for a diverse group across universities and countries. Final selection criteria will be stated on the application page.
