EuroScience Open Forum
EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) 2022 is Europe’s biggest interdisciplinary and prestigious scientific conference and is unique in its kind. The 10th edition - ESOF2022 – a fully hybrid conference offering an onsite and online experience – is hosted by Leiden, European City of Science 2022 (in The Netherlands) and will take place from 13-16 July, 2022.
ESOF2022 offers the scientific community a unique experience, opportunity, and platform for cross-disciplinary and cross-sectorial interaction and exchange. It fosters dialogue on scientific culture, scientific research, technology, policy for and with society.
Seven Tracks - All program parts are allocated to one of these 7 tracks below; all related to the overarching theme Crossing Borders, Engaged Science, Resilient Societies.
Looking at the issues you would expect climate change, green energy and sustainable lifestyles but also human
rights, citizen science, a sustainable economy, and future mobility and tomorrow’s cities.
From the pressing issues of global migration and Fortress Europe, to contested heritage and the mission of museums and collections, to art and protest movements.
Covering such topics as the search for Earth and for extra-terrestrial life, dark-matter research, construction in space
and on the Moon, and quantum computing.
Key areas of focus include the interplay between industrial and academic research; chronic diseases, soaring costs in healthcare and global inequalities. This track also addresses digital tools, AI and data protection.
Investigating such issues as integrity in scientific advice; the dialogue between science and policy; scientific freedom and funding; responsible research and innovation; science diplomacy; and conflicts of interests.
As well as entrepreneurial education, topics covered in this track will include academic and industry-based research, value-driven innovation and innovation originating from the humanities
Including new academic career paths; research quality versus research quantity; and the role of team science.
ESOF2022 comprises four components
The Main Scientific Programme
It offers 120 interactive scientific sessions, 60 poster presentations, 7 keynote speakers, 2 plenary sessions, pre-conference workshops, sponsored sessions, field trips, the regional site Katowice, and the World Programme on the latest advancements in scientific research, practice, and related policy issues.
An Exhibition
It will showcase the best in European scientific activity and research whether academic or industrial, from both the public and private sectors which will take place inside this 900-year-old renowned church
Networking and Other Events
At ESOF2022, there will be a wide variety of other meetings, like the Delegate Party, opening, closing and award ceremonies, satellite events, and social and networking opportunities involving science policy advisers and science media. And meet other delegates in the open network area of the virtual conference platform.
European Science in the City Festival (17 June – 17 July)
This festival programme will present mobile expositions, art, pop-up musea, music, conventions, and city tours happening around the city designed for curious minds.
